A venture fund investing in seed and pre-seed offering high risks and rewards is a natural complement to a well-diversified portfolio. Successful early investments in private companies can be huge difference makers—both in wealth and impact. While many new startups won’t survive, the ones that do succeed have the chance to deliver outsized returns—with some home runs returning 10x, 25x, or 100x or more. As a recent example, early investors in Snowflake saw a 1500x return on the first day of public trading.

The AVG Basecamp Fund will attempt to maximize gain and mitigate risk inherent in this special venture category. We will build a large portfolio of ~100 deals over a year or so, diversified by sector and geography. Additionally, we will co-invest alongside established seed fund investors, accelerators, and incubators who are experienced and successful pre-seed and seed investors. We will also reserve 25% for follow-on investments in a “chase-your-winners” strategy.

CoScreen is a desktop collaboration SaaS solution for remote teams, enabling users to screenshare by drag and drop as if they were working on the same desktop, side by side.
RIOS is expanding the scope of what robots can do by making major improvements to the software and hardware of robotic arms
Arrive is an outdoor experience company that enables consumers to plan outdoor adventures and rent premium outdoor gear—saving customers money and storage space.
Tembo Health is a telemedicine platform bringing specialty medical care (e.g., cardiology and psychiatry) to specialty nursing facilities like nursing homes.
